GREAT and GLORIOUS NEWS to America, and comfortable news to the PRINTER of the Virginia Gazette.

An express arrived in town this evening from Mr. Jordon, who came passenger in the Lord Baltimore, Capt. Mitchell, arrived in York river from London, who brings a certain account of the repeal of the abhorred STAMP ACT. The publication of our paper, upon this account, will be later than usual; but the occasion of it, we are almost sure, will plead our excuse. After reading the following, let the cheerful song go round; for Britons, Britons never will be slaves.

A bill for the better securing the dependency of his Majesty’s dominions in America upon the Crown and Parliament of Great Britain. . . .

The Bristol, Capt. Young, is arrived in York river, from Bristol, who had 7 weeks passage, and the Sally and Molly, Capt. Robertson, from Glasgow, is arrived in Potowmauk, who sailed the 13th of March.

April 11, 1766 - Walker, Leigh, Reade

Arrived in York river, from Bristol, the York, Capt. Walker, in 7 weeks passage. By her we have papers to the 15^th of February, which contain nothing whereby to judge of the fate of the Stamp Act: But a Gentleman who came passenger in said vessel says that news arrived in Bristol the day he left it (the 16^th) that it had passed the House of Commons that the act should be repealed, and that the disposition of his Majesty and his Ministers was known to be favourable for the colonies; so that nothing now prevents this important matter from being settled to our satisfaction but the determination of the House of Lords, where we have got some staunch and able friends.
